The Writer
First and foremost, I am a child of God! I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13). I am a daughter, a wife, a mom, a grandma, a sister, an aunt, and a friend. I am a teacher, encourager, and warrior. In 2021, I became a caregiver. My husband was diagnosed in March with Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus and had a ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt placement in the lateral ventricle of his brain. In July, he was further diagnosed with Early-Onset Alzheimer's Disease. In November he began exhibiting signs of Parkinsonism. Testing and more testing. We were drowning, caught in the riptide currents of massive waves of devastating news. We knew how to swim through it to survive but never expected the difficulties we would face. I was unprepared for caregiving. I did not have experience! The doctors did not give me a manual with each diagnosis. I had to use my spiritual gifts and faith to get to the shore safely so I could begin the process of helping my husband in the way he needed to be helped. I am learning. It is an on-going process. Some days are good; other days are painful. I would be lying if I said, "I've got this!" I do not, but I am grateful that "my God" has totally "got this"! If you are reading my posts as a friend, thank you for your support and please help to spread this website by sharing with your group of friends. If you are a caregiver, know you are not alone. May you all find the blessings in your journeys, no matter how hard they may be to see. They are there -- keep seeking!
Respectfully Yours,
Karen
